Swarovski Brings Crystals to a Disney Film

swarovskijewelry – Swarovski created a glass vase based on Disney’s original design and supplied the 2,160 crystals that Oscar-winning costume designer Jacqueline Durrani used to design Belle’s iconic yellow dress. Swarovski crystals were used in the opening scene of Madame de Garderobe’s costumes, the costumes of the prince and Maestro Cadenza, and the crystal house also has antique jewellery.

Jacqueline Durran commented: “Swarovski crystals were an important addition to the Prince’s outfit and Belle’s yellow gown. For the prince, crystal was a key element in the creation of an 18th century coat – a figure wearing a coat covered in sparkling stones seemed like the perfect way to depict its opulence. For Belle, crystals were part of the finishing touch on her yellow Garderobe gown, and when added to the gold motif of the gown, they added the final touch of magic.”

Oscar-nominated fashion designer Katie Spencer flew to Swarovski’s headquarters in Tirol, Austria, to work with the company’s chief cutter on a design based on Disney’s original design. The delicate frost effect was created by a London craftsman to make the bells, and contains several music boxes made by Belle’s father, Maurice.

Katie Spencer commented: “Working with Swarovski has been an incredible experience. Their crystals add an extra touch of magic, especially in the beautiful Bell Jar centre. The technical team at Swarovski in Austria are incredibly passionate and their knowledge and dedication really shines through in the final result .”
